The team are raising funds to support 2 projects at the Hospital:

  • the upgrade and expansion on Walnut Ward, our special care baby unit, increasing capacity from 22 to 26 cots, and being able to care for babies from 27 weeks gestation.
  • the purchase of a Digital breast tomosynthesis (tomo), also known as 3D mammography. This revolutionary new breast imaging tool can improve the early detection of breast cancer.

Day 1: Darent Valley Hospital – Dover – Calais

Setting off from the Hospital, we follow country roads through rural villages towards Dover and the coast. We take the ferry, having dinner on-board, leaving a short cycle ride to our hotel in Calais. Cycle approx. 113km (70 miles)

Day 2: Calais - Bruges

We ride parallel to the coast from Calais towards historic Dunkirk, known best for the British evacuation in the Second World War. There are a few low hills approaching Bruges, but then we are in the ‘Venice of the North,’ famed for its canals. Cycle approx. 134km (83 miles)

Day 3: Bruges – Breda

Leaving the city, we ride north, crossing into The Netherlands at the small town of Sluis, and continuing to Breskens. A short ferry ride takes us across to the busy port of Vlissingen, in Zeeland. Back on the ‘mainland’ we ride northeast through open fields of crops, passing small towns and villages, before reaching the busier streets of Breda. Cycle approx. 148km (91 miles)

Day 4: Breda – Amsterdam

On our last day in the saddle we head north through intensively farmed fields, which stretch for miles along our route. We then pedal into one of the most cycle- friendly cities in Europe, passing canals and fascinating buildings on our way to the heart of the city and the end of our rewarding challenge! This evening we have a big celebration to mark our achievements. Cycle approx. 145km (90 miles)

Day 5: Amsterdam – Ebbsfleet

We have free time to enjoy the sights of Amsterdam – a wonderful place simply to wander – before meeting at the well-known Centraal Station for our Eurostar journey back to Ebbsfleet International Station.

“The pain goes very quickly, left with fantastic memories of an amazing 4 days. It was such a pleasure to spend time with everyone, I shall certainly be recommending it to others.”
