Chairman of Zone 4a Lions Clubs, Barbara Whitehead, facilitated the collective donation between the local Lions Clubs of £2,950 towards our Cancer Fighting Fund and the purchase of an Accuvein Finder for the Pine Therapy Unit. The piece of kit helps easily locate veins for inserting cannulas and taking blood, minimising distress and discomfort for patients.

Chemotherapy treatments can causes 'Thrombophlebitis' a hardening and shrinking of the veins. The result is an increase of painful failed cannulations and blood tests that can lead to complications and delays in treatment. The Accuvein will aid accurate vein location and reduced discomfort.

On Friday 17th August representatives for the respective Lions Clubs attended the Hospital, and presented the cheque to Christine Handy, Macmillan Lead Chemotherapy Nurse on Pine Therapy.

A huge thank you to all the Lions Club involved: Gravesend, Northfleet and Ebbsfleet, Darent Valley, Dartford, Bexley and Sidcup, Woolwich and Greenwich and Swanley and North Downs.
