Our team

Valley Hospital Charity is managed day to day by the Fundraising and Voluntary Services Team at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. Based at Darent Valley Hospital, and serving Darent Valley and DGT areas of Queen Mary's in Sidcup, they look after supporters, donors and volunteers, organise fundraising events and process charitable donations. 

Mark Cullen

Community Fundraising Manager

Mark joined the team in February 2021 having worked primarily in financial services for most of his career. Mark is a cycling fanatic, with one of his biggest achievements being cycling the Stelvio Pass in Italy as photographed. He is cycling LEJOG (Lands End to John O'Groats) for the charity in June 2022!

Charitable Funds Committee

Representing the Corporate Trustee, the Committee meets 3 times a year

Purpose

The Charitable Funds Committee exists to oversee the governance of Valley Hospital Charity (Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust Charitable Fund) on behalf of the Board of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, in accordance with the duties and responsibilities of charitable Trustees. The Committee also exists to ensure that Valley Hospital Charity complies with its charitable objects. The Charitable Fund should be applied to wherever Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust provides its services.

  • Non-Executive Director (Chair)
  • Director of Finance (to be represented by Deputy Director of Finance if unable to attend)
  • Medical Director (to be represented by another Executive Director or Deputy Medical Director if unable to attend)
  • Director of Operations

  • Finance Manager
  • Associate Director, Corporate Development (Trust Secretary)

Charity Management Board

A volunteer board which meets 6 weekly to review funding requests and approve charitable expenditure

Purpose

The Charity Management Board exists as a sub-committee of the Charitable Funds Committee, to manage Valley Hospital Charity (Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust Charitable Fund) by executing plans, monitoring actions, and making decisions regarding expenditure in relation to all the sites from which the Trust operates, within the framework agreed by the Charitable Funds Committee, and the Trust’s Standing Financial Instructions.

  • Chairman (Lay member) (to be elected by the Members)
  • Lay representatives from community (6)
  • Head of Fundraising & Voluntary Services (NHS Trust)
  • The Finance Manager with responsibility for oversight of the charitable fund accounts (NHS Trust)
  • Medical representative (NHS Trust)
  • Nursing representative (NHS Trust)
  • Chairman of Trust Board (NHS Trust)

Sally George

Head of Fundraising and Voluntary Services

Sally has worked at the Trust since 2016, having worked in the charity sector for over 18 years. Sally enjoys running and cycling and launched the Charity's inaugural Ride4Life event in 2017.

Sarah Young

Fundraising and Voluntary Services Team Assistant

Sarah joined us in February 2021 as our new Team Assistant. 

Sarah is a Unit Manager for Dartford St John Ambulance Badgers, a voluntary group for youth members aged 5-11. She also volunteers with  other local community groups and associations.

Lucy Fox

Business Process Officer

Lucy has worked at the Trust for over 16 years, supporting the Charity as it has grown. Lucy manages our supporter database and our online giving platforms, as well as supporting our volunteer recruitment. In her spare time Lucy plays Netball.

Joan Warwick and Carol Woodgates

Stride4Life Fundraising Volunteers

Carol Woodgates and Joan Warwick MBE (L-R)

Joan Warwick MBE is a fundraising volunteer, having been the founder and Chair of the Stride4Life Committee, and organised the inaugural Stride4Life sponsored walk and Fun Day in 2004. Stride4Life has become the Charity's flagship fundraising event. Stride4life and its associated fundraising activities have raised just shy of £500k since it began in 2004. Joan is also a member of the Charity Management Board and supported the Christmas and Summer Charity Draws.  

Carol Woodgates, like her sister Joan Warwick, works on Stride4Life campaign activities, in particular tracking and processing the income raised by Stride4Life supporters throughout the year. Carol and Joan also do their own fundraising for Stride4Life, including a Pamper Evening at the Hospital. Carol also organises the Christmas and Summer Charity Draws, is a member of the Charity Management Board.
