Darent Valley Hospital has one of the only dedicated Heart Centres in Kent which means that cardiac patients no longer have to travel to London for care.

The Heartbeat Fund, initially launched as an appeal in 2007 to coincide with the creation of the Heart Centre, continues to support cardiac patients and staff at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust. Charitable funds have helped introduce new technologies, develop staff and improved patients experience through day care in the Heart Centre, and our inpatient Chestnut Ward at Darent Valley Hospital.

The Charity has recently purchased:

  • A mobile defibrillator
  • 8 comfortable reclining mobile patient chairs to create a patient lounge, so that low risk day patients can choose to sit in a chair, rather than spending time in a bed. Chris Johnson, a patient from Dartford said:
“They are extremely comfortable, and I preferred to go straight into a chair rather than a bed. For me sitting in a chair feels a step closer to going home!”
Caroline Godley, Junior Sister said:
“We are very excited to have these new chairs, we have been looking forward to getting them for a very long time and we are so pleased they are finally here. They will certainly enhance our patients experience in the Heart Centre. Our thanks to Valley Hospital Charity and all those who support it.”
